Common questions
A word for my relative is wrong, or my family uses a different one. Both can be true. Languages vary by region, family and generation, and Whoolla gives the word most people in a country would recognise. If you think an entry is wrong rather than just different, tell us which country and which relative, and what you would say instead — corrections go into the next update.
My country isn’t there, or it shows another country’s words. Whoolla covers 62 countries and grows with each update. Where a country has no words of its own yet, the app says so and stands in with the closest language. Tell us which country you need.
My country has more than one language. For countries where families speak different languages at home — Belgium, Switzerland, Singapore — the app can offer more than one set of words. Pick the country, then the community. If yours is missing, tell us.
Pronunciation doesn’t play. Check the silent switch and volume. Words play through your phone’s speaker even with the ringer off in most cases, but some settings route audio differently. A few languages use your iPhone’s built-in voices; if one is missing, iOS will offer to download it in Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices.
How do I delete what I’ve entered? Everything is on your device. Remove people one by one in My family, or delete the app to remove everything at once. See the Data Deletion page.
Does the app need internet? No. Every word and every voice ships inside the app.
Which languages does the app itself speak? The app’s interface is in English and Korean, and follows your iPhone’s language.
